With over 350 miles of trail in place throughout nine counties, stuff is bound to happen. The Bay Trail Project will make every effort to alert the public to trail segments that are closed or detoured for upgrade, repair, or hazardous conditions. But that’s a lot of trail — let us know if we missed something major!
Bay Trail Closures and Detours in Sunnyvale and San Jose
A Google-funded trail construction project is underway requiring the temporary closure of portions of the Bay Trail in Sunnyvale and San Jose. The project consists of deferred maintenance improvements, including repairing and resurfacing the trail, improving bridge surfaces and enhancing bridge design, and refreshing interpretive and guide signs. The project is planned to be completed by early 2019. The project will be rolled out in phases with bicycle and pedestrian detours in place.
Possible Delays at the Bay Bridge Trail — September through December 2018

Trail Closures at Bedwell Bayfront Park in Menlo Park
Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge has launched a levee maintenance and habitat enhancement project at the Refuge’s Ravenswood Ponds, on lands directly south of the City of Menlo Park’s Bedwell Bayfront Park. Maintenance work will shore up and repair pond levees, and, as part of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, ponds will be enhanced to create and improve wildlife habitat and build a new public trail. Trucks will need to drive through the Park entrance and on part of a San Francisco Bay Trail/Park perimeter trail that loops around the edge of the Park to reach Refuge lands. To protect public safety, the impacted Park areas and trail segments will be closed when trucks are present. Click here to sign up for e-mail blasts about the project.

Embarcadero Bridge in Oakland to Close May 11, 2016 for Two Years of Construction
On May 11, 2016, the City of Oakland will begin a two-year construction project to replace the seismically deficient Embarcadero Bridge, part of the Bay Trail network. Located between Estuary Park and 5th Avenue, the project will result in a new bridge with improved facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians, including 6-foot bike lanes in each direction, a 5-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 12-foot multi-use path on the south side. All vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be rerouted. View the Public Works project page for a detour map.
